Description

The book follows ten-year-old Melanie Martin as she travels to Holland with her family and her best friend Cecily. Along with her little brother Matt the Brat and a friend named Vincent Van Go Go Go, Melanie keeps a diary of their summer adventures. Despite Cecily's worry about her mother's health and her own attitude, the family manages to have a good time in the Netherlands. The story is told through Melanie's private diary entries.

Quick Summary

Melanie Martin's diary turns a family trip to the Netherlands into an unforgettable summer adventure that feels like reading your best friend's secret notebook, complete with sassy commentary about her little brother's antics and all the goofy cultural mix-ups that happen when American kids meet Dutch windmills. Kids will laugh out loud at her honest (and sometimes cringeworthy) observations about family vacations, her best friend Cecily's dramatic worrying, and the private thoughts every kid wishes they could write down. If your kid loves the humor and relatability of Diary of a Wimpy Kid or the spunky friendship vibes of Ivy + Bean, they'll be totally hooked. Perfect for kids in grades 3 through 6 who enjoy funny, real-life stories about family travel and best friends.
