Description

When Hollis flees Coroa and settles in Isolte, she finds a fragile sense of belonging with the Eastoffe family, even as cousin Etan's hostility toward Coroans threatens to destabilize her new home. With the kingdom on the brink of war and a tyrannical king tightening his grip, Hollis must rally the Eastoffes and other allies to overthrow the ruler before conflict engulfs the land. The sequel to The Betrothed weaves romance, political intrigue, and a fight against gender bias into a story of resilience and loyalty.

Quick Summary

If you're into fantasy with real stakes, "The Betrayed" picks up right where the first Siren book left off Hollis is trying to navigate life in a new country while getting pulled into a rebellion against a corrupt king, and honestly, the tension never lets up. It's got that perfect mix of action and heart that middle graders love, plus there's this underlying thread about gender bias that gives kids something to think about without being preachy. The mild violence is mostly sword fights and political scheming, nothing too graphic, so it's fine for most kids 10 and up, but younger sensitive readers might want to wait. What I really like is that the characters actually have to make hard choices and live with the consequences there's no fairy-tale easy ending here. Fans of "The Goose Girl" by Shannon Hale or anyone who loved the first Siren book will probably devour this one, especially if they like stories where the underdog gets a shot at changing things. It's a solid sequel that builds on the first book nicely and leaves you wanting the next one.
