Description

Gotham City's most notorious puzzler, the Riddler, has set his sights on solving the ultimate mystery: Batman's true identity. To force the Caped Crusader into the open, he kidnaps Batgirl and Robin and threatens to keep them unless Batman answers his riddle. The Dark Knight must race against time, outwit the villain's traps, and rescue his allies before his secret is revealed.

Quick Summary

Steele's short, punchy story drops readers right into a high-stakes puzzle when the Riddler decides the only way to get under Batman's cowl is to force him to reveal his true identity. The plot unfolds as a series of riddles scattered across the city, and Batman, together with Robin, must crack each one before the clock runs out, which keeps the tension lively without getting too scary for middle-grade readers. The writing is snappy and filled with clever wordplay, so kids who enjoy brain-teasers will have a blast trying to solve the puzzles before the Dynamic Duo does, much like the classic "Riddle of the Sphinx" episode of the Batman animated series. At about 5,800 words and an AR Level of 4.5, it's perfect for kids aged 9-12 who are reluctant readers, offering the excitement of a comic-style adventure without a lengthy commitment. Parents will appreciate that the story emphasizes teamwork, quick thinking, and the idea that a secret identity isn't something to be ashamed of, while the mild peril is more teasing than truly frightening. If you've got a fan of Batman who also loves riddles, this one's a quick, satisfying read that feels like a classic episode of the animated series.
