Description

The Runaway is the second book in Kate O'Hearn's fantasy series. In this installment, siblings Freya and Archie are sent from Asgaard back to Earth with a mission to locate Brünnhilde, a Valkyrie who was banished from the realm. They must convince her to return to Asgaard, but Brünnhilde has established a new life on Earth and refuses to go back. The story continues the adventures of these characters as they navigate between the worlds of Norse mythology and modern Earth.

Quick Summary

The story flips mythology on its head by sending two kids from Asgard to Earth On a Sunbeam mission to retrieve a rebellious Valkyrie who has traded her warrior life for a human one. Readers will root for Brünnhilde as she outsmarts her would-be captors while Freya and Archie discover that tracking down someone who doesn't want to be found is way harder than any battle training. If your kid loves the humor and heart of Percy Jackson but wants a fresh twist on Norse mythology, this book delivers that perfect mix of mythical stakes and everyday kid dilemmas. With an AR Level of 4.3 and a fast-paced story that respects its young protagonists' intelligence, this is an ideal pick for kids in grades 4-7 who want mythology with a modern attitude.
