Description

Creating a power-boost technology designed to help their baseball pitcher friend make the team, Frank Einstein and his companions are challenged to rescue a kidnapped robot buddy and stop archrival T. Edison from stealing their invention. Book #3

Quick Summary

Jon Scieszka's Frank Einstein series hits that perfect sweet spot for middle graders who like their science wrapped in silly slapstick chaos. This third installment follows Frank and his robot sidekicks as they try to build a "BrainTurbo" device to help their baseball pitcher friend make the team, but of course things go hilariously sideways when the villainous T. Edison shows up to steal their invention and kidnapping ensues. The book works really well for reluctant readers because the chapters are short, there are plenty of goofy illustrations by Brian Biggs, and the science concepts (electricity, brain science) slip in naturally without ever feeling like homework. What I appreciate as a parent is that it celebrates curiosity and problem-solving without being preachy, and the friendships between Frank and his bots feel genuinely warm even through all the zany action. If your kid devoured the "Dog Man" series or "Captain Underpants" but you're trying to nudge them toward something with a little more substance, this is a great bridge book funny and fast-paced enough to hook them, but actually teaching real stuff along the way.
