Description

Scarlet Silver longs to be a pirate like her grandmother, but her family strictly avoids even saying the word. When she discovers a piece that looks exactly like real gold, she takes it as a sign to start her own treasure hunt. Her quest forces her relatives to break their silence and confront long-kept family secrets. The story mixes adventure and mild mystery for early readers.

Quick Summary

Scarlet Silver has the most epic pirate ancestry you could imagine, but nobody in her family will even whisper the word "pirate" - and watching her try to work around this ridiculous rule is genuinely hilarious. When she stumbles onto something that looks suspiciously like treasure, she has to figure out how to share her exciting discovery without actually saying the forbidden word, which leads to some wonderfully silly misunderstandings. This is a great pick for kids who are just starting to read chapter books on their own, especially those who love anything with boats, treasure, and swashbuckling adventure. Parents will appreciate that it handles family dynamics with warmth and humor while still delivering plenty of action to keep squirmy kids invested. If your young reader enjoyed books like "Pirate's Lullaby" or other pirate-themed early readers, they'll probably ask to read this one over and over - and at only 573 words, that's totally doable. The short length makes it perfect for emergent readers who want to feel like they've conquered a "real" chapter book, and the balance of fun and heart means it works beautifully for read-alouds too.
