Quick Summary

Ever wonder what happens when a middle-schooler gets his hands on a strange piece of bone that can summon demons? Edgy Taylor's life flips upside-down after a dying boy hands him that weird artifact, and before long he's recruited into the Society for Daemonologie, a secret club of teen demon-hunters who spend their time chasing down cursed relics and out-witting spooky monsters. The story mixes plenty of gross humor think slime-splattered labs and monster-snot jokes with genuine thrills, so it feels more like a fun roller-coaster than a genuinely terrifying horror tale, though there are a few tense moments that might make a sensitive reader jump. If your kid loves the spooky-but-playful vibe of Goosebumps but also wants a little more world-building and a sarcastic hero who's always cracking jokes, they'll find a lot to love here. The book also sneaks in a bit of folklore and history about demons, making it a sneaky educational bonus for kids who like learning while they read.
