Description

When a determined developer announces plans to construct a new freeway straight through an Indian reservation, the peace and traditions of the community are put at risk. A group of young friends, known as the Tribe, step up to challenge the project, gathering evidence and rallying their community to protect their home. As they face pressure from the powerful Kong Kreet, they must use teamwork, ingenuity, and respect for their heritage to find a way to stop the road before it's too late.

Quick Summary

If you've got a kid who likes fast-paced adventure with a bit of heart, "Road Rage" is a quick read that actually sticks with you. The story follows a group of kids who get pulled into a fight to save their community's land from being torn up for a new road, and there's something really satisfying about watching young characters take charge and outsmart the adults around them. At just 2,000 words and an AR level of 3.4, it's perfect for middle graders who might feel intimidated by longer chapter books but want something that still feels like a real story rather than a simplified version of one. There's a bit of tension and a few genuinely scary moments, but it balances out with humor and friendship, so it never gets too heavy for the age group. What I like is that it touches on real issues like community, standing up for what you believe in, and working together all wrapped up in an adventure that moves at a great pace. It's similar to other short adventure reads in the "Tribe" series where kids face real problems and find creative ways to solve them. Parents will appreciate that it's wholesome and educational without feeling preachy, and kids will just think it's a fun, fast book they can actually finish in one sitting.
