Quick Summary
If you've got a kid who thinks computers are cool, "Megamouse" is right up their alley. The story follows siblings Joe and Kelly when their grandpa's fancy new computer mouse literally comes to life and escapes outside because, why not? and the kids have to track it down before the grumpy Miss Tree gets her hands on it. It's got that perfect mix of silly and slightly tense that keeps middle graders turning pages, and the mouse's personality shines through even though it's just a regular mouse doing regular mouse things that the kids have to explain away. This would be a great pick for reluctant readers who might be drawn in by the silly premise, or for kids who love books like "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" by Beverly Cleary. At around 16,000 words it's a quick read that doesn't talk down to kids, and the AR level of 3.6 means it's accessible without being babyish. Parents will appreciate that it's genuinely funny with a little heart underneath, and there's nothing problematic just good old-fashioned adventure with a tech twist.
