Description
In this picture-book tale, an old wishing well is so clogged with moss that it can barely hear the wishes whispered into it. Because the well mishears, the wishes get mixed up, leaving the townspeople with the opposite of what they hoped for. A determined child sets out to clean the well's ears, hoping to restore its hearing and fix the magical mix-ups.
Quick Summary
There's something hilarious about a wishing well that's gone a little deaf and mossy and kids tend to find that absolutely riotous. This is a short, sweet story about wishes getting mixed up because the old well can't quite hear what people are asking for, which leads to some wonderfully silly mix-ups that young readers will want to hear again and again. It's perfect for early readers in kindergarten through third grade, especially kids who love books with a good sense of humor and a touch of magic. The short length (just over 1,300 words) makes it a great choice for kids who might feel intimidated by longer chapter books or for a quick, fun read-aloud that won't drag on. Parents will appreciate that it's wholesome and lighthearted, though there's a tiny bit of mild suspense when wishes go awry, which keeps things exciting without being scary. If your kid likes wonky, whimsical stories where things don't go as planned, they'd probably also get a kick out of "The Paper Crane" or other picture books with quirky magical elements. It's one of those quick reads that leaves kids giggling and maybe even inspired to make their own wishes mossy ears or not.
