Description

When the farmer blames Gruff the goat for something he didn't do, Gruff is determined to find out who the real culprit is.

Quick Summary

If you've got a kid who loves silly animal stories with a twist, "Gruff Justice" is a fun little read. Gruff the goat gets blamed for something he definitely didn't do trashing the farmer's prized vegetable patch and honestly, you kind of feel bad for him because he's not the type to cause trouble. Instead of just accepting the blame like most goats probably would, Gruff actually puts on a detective hat (metaphorically, but you get it) and sets out to find the real culprit, which is pretty satisfying to watch unfold. The book has this goofy, lighthearted energy that keeps kids turning pages, but there's also a sweet message underneath about standing up for yourself and not letting people jump to conclusions. It's short enough that even reluctant readers can power through it without getting intimidated, and at an AR Level of 3.5, it hits that sweet spot where kids feel accomplished but not overwhelmed. Parents will appreciate that it's wholesome without being preachy the lesson comes naturally through Gruff's adventure rather than being shoved in your face. If your kid enjoyed "The Bad Seed" or any of those early chapter books where animals get into mischief, they'd probably like this one too.
