Quick Summary
If you've got a kid who's into Halloween or spooky-but-not-too-scary stories, this one's a quick, fun read. Jason Banks starts out as the class bully everyone is afraid of, but things take a turn when he gets involved with cracking the mystery of the Pumpkin of Doom think unexpected teamwork, some genuine laughs, and a bully who actually has to learn what it feels like to be on the other side. It's a short chapter book (around 5,000 words), so perfect for kids who might feel overwhelmed by longer novels or anyone looking for something they can finish in a sitting or two. The story strikes a nice balance between lighthearted humor and a meaningful message about empathy and standing up for others, without getting too preachy. I'd compare it to something like "Frindle" or other Andrew Clements school stories in terms of the relatable classroom setting and character growth, though this one has that Halloween twist. Parents will appreciate that it shows consequences and growth in a way that feels earned, and kids will enjoy the mystery element and the satisfaction of seeing the tough guy learn his lesson.
