Description
Every Saturday at noon the T. Middleton Nightingale City Library magically transforms into a living labyrinth, and this week library page Kelly walks right into it just as the Minotaur appears with Princess Ariadne. Trapped among twisting corridors filled with other Greek mythic beasts, Kelly must locate her missing fellow pages and find a way out before the library's magical clock resets. The adventure becomes a race against time as the maze keeps shifting and the monsters close in.
Quick Summary
If your kid loves mythology mixed with action, this one's a fun quick read that'll keep them turning pages. Kelly and her friends end up trapped inside a magical library that literally transforms into a maze at midnight, and they have to outsmart the Minotaur before time runs out which means there's real tension and stakes, but it's more exciting-thriller than truly scary, so most middle graders will handle it fine. At only 6,000 words it's perfect for kids who want the thrill of a quest story without committing to a giant novel, and the friends-work-together element gives it a nice relatable heart underneath all the adventure. Parents will appreciate that it sneaks in some actual library and mythology tidbits without ever feeling like homework. It honestly reminds me a bit of the Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library series same vibe of kids using their brains to get out of a tricky, book-themed situation. It's short enough to be a great airplane or bedtime story, but engaging enough that kids will feel like they accomplished something, and maybe even want to hunt down the other books in the series.
