Description

In this middle-grade mystery, Stacey from the Baby-Sitters Club is tasked with house-sitting for the Johanssens while they're away. Strange behavior from the family dog, warm appliances left on, and trash in the wastebaskets soon convince her that someone else is using the empty house possibly as a hideout. As she investigates, she must piece together the clues before the intruders realize she's onto them.

Quick Summary

If you're looking for a Baby-Sitters Club book that goes beyond the usual club drama, this one delivers a satisfying mystery twist. Stacey takes on a house-sitting gig and becomes convinced someone is secretly using the empty house at night there's tension, a few creepy moments, and enough uncertainty to keep readers guessing. It works really well for kids who want something with a bit more suspense than the typical BSC story but still want that familiar comfort of the club members being there for each other. Fans of the series will recognize the character dynamics they love, while kids new to Stacey as a character get a great standalone introduction to her. It's a solid choice for readers around grades 4-6 who enjoy mysteries with a cozy, friendship-focused backdrop, and it's short enough that even reluctant readers can power through it without feeling overwhelmed. If your kid has already read other BSC mysteries and wanted more of that intrigue, this hits the mark.
