Quick Summary

Imagine being tossed from a Kansas farm by a wild cyclone and landing in a world where the streets glitter like emeralds that's the fantastical start Dorothy gets in this lively adaptation of Baum's classic. Kids will love following her and her dog Toto as they collect a scarecrow who longs for brains, a tin man who wants a heart, and a cowardly lion seeking courage, all while dodging mischievous witches and solving clever puzzles on the road to the Wizard's palace. The story mixes gentle humor with just enough tension to keep early readers on their toes, but it never veers into true fright, making it a good fit for kids who enjoy whimsical adventure without heavy scares. This version keeps the heart of the original while using shorter chapters and simple language that are perfect for kids moving from picture books to early chapter books. If they're drawn to this, they'll likely also enjoy The Magic Tree House series or other early chapter books about magical journeys.
