Quick Summary
If your child is just getting the hang of reading chapter books, this Spider-Man story offers a quick, action-packed ride that's still easy enough for early readers. It follows a typical middle-schooler who gets a surprising spider bite in a lab and learns that his new powers come with the responsibility to help others think saving a cat, stopping a quick rooftop chase, and dealing with a bully at school. The sentences are short and punchy, and the colorful pictures give plenty of visual cues, so kids can zip through the 480-word text without getting stuck, even if they're a little reluctant to read. Parents will like that the book mixes light-hearted superhero fun with a gentle lesson about doing the right thing, and there's just enough mild peril (a near-collapse, a close call with a bad guy) to keep the excitement up without being scary. For fans of other early-reader superhero books like "Batman: A Little Golden Book Adventure," this Spider-Man tale makes a great next step.
