Description
Mrs. Green's class is putting on a production of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," and most students can't wait to audition for a role. Hubie, however, would rather stay in the audience than step onto the stage. When the teacher points out that you can't become a star without taking a chance, Hubie must decide whether to face his fear of performing or keep watching from the sidelines. The story follows his humorous attempts to cope with the pressure of the school play while dealing with everyday school jitters.
Quick Summary
Kids who love a good laugh will find plenty to grin about in the latest Black Lagoon adventure, where Mrs. Green announces the class will perform The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the whole school buzzes with excitement. Hubie, however, would rather sit in the audience than audition for any part, especially when the story involves a headless horseman and a spooky forest. The humor comes from his over-the-top attempts to dodge the spotlight hiding behind the curtains, signing up for the least glamorous job, and mispronouncing lines in hilariously dramatic ways while the gentle scares of the Sleepy Hollow legend stay light enough not to give nightmares. It's a perfect pick for early readers who are nervous about school plays or reluctant readers who appreciate short chapters and goofy illustrations, and it works well as a read-alone or read-together book for kindergartners through third graders. If your child enjoyed other titles in the series like The Field Trip from the Black Lagoon, they'll feel right at home with this one, and the quick pace and silly dialogue make it a great bridge to longer chapter books.
