Quick Summary
Charlie and his friend Marv have brewed up an invisibility potion specifically so they can go creature-hunting without little Lola getting in the way, but "slightly" invisible turns out to create its own set of hilarious problems. Lauren Child perfectly captures that classic older-sibling frustration of wanting independence from a chatty younger brother or sister, while also showing how things rarely go according to plan. Kids who already love the Charlie and Lola TV series will recognize her playful storytelling style with its mix of dialogue and illustrated asides, and newly independent readers will find the short chapters and easy vocabulary very approachable. The humor is warm rather than mean-spirited, so even when Lola is being annoying, you can't help but root for her in the end. Parents will appreciate that it shows siblings working things out without heavy-handed lessons, making it a great choice for read-alouds or early chapter readers who like their books funny and fast.
