Description

Fanny's beloved grandfather is gravely ill, so she turns to her magical friend Mrs. May for a potion that can keep him alive. The potion is meant to be taken in tiny sips, but Grandpa can't resist drinking more, and he begins to age backward, becoming younger and younger with each sip. As he rapidly shrinks through childhood, Fanny must find a way to reverse the magic before it's too late. The story mixes whimsical fantasy with family drama, giving middle-grade readers a fast-paced adventure.

Quick Summary

If your kid loves stories where things go hilariously wrong in the most unexpected ways, this one's a winner. Fanny loves her grandfather so much that when he gets sick, she'll do anything including using a sketchy magical potion from her neighbor to keep him around. The problem? Grandpa has zero self-control, and once he starts drinking the potion, he just keeps going and going, getting younger and younger until things get seriously ridiculous. There's a sweet message buried underneath all the chaos about accepting hard things, but honestly, kids will be too busy laughing at the absurdity to notice. It's a quick read for middle graders short chapters and simple language make it perfect for kids who might be a little intimidated by thicker books. Parents should know there's some mild scariness (the potion thing gets a bit tense) and a little bit of gross-out humor, but nothing too wild. Fans of books like "The Magic Finger" by Roald Dahl or "The Bad Guys" by Aaron Blabey will probably gravitate toward this one.
