Description
In a reality where countless parallel worlds lie just out of sight, the Agents work to keep them hidden from humanity. The first volume introduces Boo, a fourth-grader and the smallest agent ever, whose size makes her easy to underestimate. When the rest of the team leaves Space City to battle Queen Misery's Commissars on another world, Boo is left behind to defend her home world alone, armed only with her training and a loyal feline companion, and must outwit the devious enemies threatening it.
Quick Summary
Fans of graphic novels with fast-paced adventure will find a lot to love here Boo is barely finished with her training when she gets left behind while the rest of the Agents head off to save a parallel world, and suddenly this rookie has to protect Space City from Queen Misery's sneaky Commissars with nothing but her wits and a furry feline sidekick at her side. The humor lands really well for this age group (the AR level of 3.7 means kids who are newly confident readers can handle it independently), and there's just enough spooky tension to make it feel exciting without going overboard. What makes this one stand out is how relatable Boo feels she's young, she's inexperienced, and she still has to step up when it matters most, which is exactly the kind of underdog story middle graders eat up. It's a quick read at around 5,400 words, so it's perfect for kids who might be reluctant to pick up a longer chapter book but want something with actual substance. If your kid liked the action and humor balance in something like the Hilo series, this feels like a natural next step, and there's plenty of room for the story to grow if the series continues.
