When Eddie the elephant gets separated from his herd on the grasslands, he meets Milo, a lost monkey, and the two become friends. They discover that Eddie can read, a skill that might help them find the way back to the herd and prevent a peanut-picking disaster. Together they set out for the peanut patch, hoping to reunite with the other elephants before it's too late. The story blends animal adventure with a simple mystery about using reading to solve a problem.

Quick Summary

Milo the monkey and Eddie the elephant are an unexpected pair that kids will find instantly charming as they stumble into an adventure together on the grasslands. The friendship that develops between them feels genuine even at this simple reading level, and there's something sweet about a tiny monkey trying to help a lost elephant find his way. The goal of reaching that peanut patch while working as a team gives young readers plenty of small victories to cheer for along the way.
