Quick Summary
"Guard Dog" hits that sweet spot for middle graders who think they'd rather be playing video games than doing anything productive. Ryan is totally that kid who just wants to game, but when his dad's artwork goes missing from the flea market, he and his friend suddenly find themselves playing detective for real and discovering it's way harder than any game. It's got that fun adventure vibe but with a nice message about stepping up and actually putting in effort. Kids who enjoy the Cam Jansen mystery books or anything with a good kid-sleuth plot will probably devour this one. There's a little tension when things get a bit scary, but nothing too intense it's more funny and wholesome overall. At around 4,000 words, it's a quick read that works great for kids building their confidence with chapter books or looking for something lighter.
