Description

When a dead man's spirit escapes the realm where souls are interred, it begins possessing dozens of people, spreading like a disease in search of an ancient prophecy. Mara Lantern, a teenager with a hidden link to the spirit, must stop the plan to merge with her and trigger a metaphysical apocalypse that would alter reality itself. Alongside a quirky band of companions, she journeys through strange worlds steampunk dream realms, artificial humans, and dragons to contain the haunting and protect the fabric of existence.

Quick Summary

If you've got a kid who loves figuring out how things work, "The Clock" is a quick, satisfying read that traces the whole journey from ancient sundials to the atomic clocks we use today. What I really like about it is that it doesn't just list facts it shows how one inventor's solution sparked the next person's problem to solve, making the whole history of timekeeping feel like one big collaborative project across centuries. The writing keeps things moving with short chapters and plenty of "wait, I didn't know that!" moments, which makes it perfect for reluctant readers or anyone who wants to learn something impressive without committing to a massive book. Parents will appreciate that it's genuinely educational without being preachy, and there's enough variety in the clock types covered that kids can jump around to whatever interests them most. If your kid enjoys this, they'd probably also like "The Boy Who Invented the Bubble Gun" or other stories about accidental discoveries and tinkering inventors.
