Description

Moshi, a young Inuit girl, longs for a pet dog like the one owned by her friend, but her father explains that the puppies from their missing sled dog, Nuna, are meant for work rather than play. While out walking, Moshi and her friend are caught in a sudden whiteout and are guided to a shed where Nuna is keeping her newborn pups. Nuna runs off and soon returns with rescuers, leading the children to safety. After being praised for her survival instincts, Moshi gets to choose one of the puppies as her own.

Quick Summary

Moshi, a spirited Inuit girl, and a city-born friend find themselves suddenly lost in a blinding Arctic whiteout, and the story quickly turns into a tense but empowering rescue that hinges on Moshi's knowledge of the land and her father's lead sled dog. The short, punchy chapters keep the pace moving so even reluctant readers can zip through the adventure in a single sitting, while the mix of friendship, culture, and a little snow-day suspense makes it feel like a cozy campfire tale. Kids who love dogs, winter sports, or stories about kids surviving against the odds will especially gravitate toward this one, and the warm way Inuit traditions are woven in gives it an educational twist that parents will love. There's a hint of humor when the New York kid first meets a sled dog, which lightens the tension just enough for younger readers. If your child enjoys books like "The Snowy Day" but wants a bit more plot and a dash of survival, this is a great next step.
